Prof. Prakash Mani Tripathi, the Chief Guest, emphasised the importance of providing social security, particularly in the North East. It is not possible to provide government jobs to everyone. The inaugural programme for A 5-Day Training Programme on Social Protection and Livelihood Security in the North East was held today, November 7th, 2022. It was jointly organised by V. V. Giri National Labour Institute (VVGNLI), Noida, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University-RC Manipur (IGNTU-RCM), Makhan, and Khongnangthaba University, Imphal. Prof.  Prakash Mani Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak, MP, was the Chief Guest. Prof. N. Joykumar Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Khongnangthaba University, Imphal, presided over the event. Prof. Prasanna K. Samal, Dean Faculty of Tribal Studies, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak, MP, and Dr. M. Priyobrata Singh, Principal, Imphal College, Imphal, Government of Manipur, were the guests of honour. The Special Invitees include Sheela Tripathi, IGNTU’s First Lady and Chairperson, Sheel Mandal, Amarkantak, and Prof. Ng. Ngalengnam (Director, IGNTU – RCM). Dr. Otojit Kshetrimayum, Fellow & Co-ordinator Centre for North East India, V.V. Giri National Labour Institute, Noida, presented the event’s keynote presentation.

The training programme seeks to raise participants’ understanding of social protection and livelihood security concerns in the North East. The program’s major goals are to familiarise participants with notions of social protection and livelihood security through micro-level experiments around the country, including entrepreneurship and skill development. It is crucial to comprehend the role of various institutional systems in providing social protection and long-term livelihood. The programme’s objective is also to involve the government and other social partners in establishing rural livelihood protection programmes added Dr. Otojit Kshetrimayum during his keynote address.
