Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh inspected the Biofloc Fish Farming at the residence of fish farmer Longjam Boss Meitei at Wangjoi Thounaojam Leikai, Imphal West today.

While appreciating Longjam Boss Meitei for being a successful and pioneer fish farmer using Biofloc fish farming technology in the State, Biren Singh opined that anybody can practice such fish farming system as it requires a minimal area. He also advised the officials of the Fisheries Department to conduct a training programme on fish farming using Biofloc Technology and create awareness among the fish farmers about the merits of Biofloc fish farming.

It may be mentioned that Biofloc technology is an eco-friendly technique by enhancing water quality in aquaculture by recycling nutrients and maintaining the water quality.

Later in a tweet, Chief Miniser Singh echoed, ‘Our vision for self-sufficiency in fish production in the State is not far-off seeing such efforts of fish farmers at Wangoi, Imphal West, where scientific methods/Biofloc fish farming is done in a large scale to meet the State’s demand of mostly indigenous fishes’

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Minister for Fisheries S. Rajen Singh, Minister for Agriculture O. Lukhoi, Addl. Chief Secretary M.H. Khan, Secretary to CM Ningthoujam Geoffrey, Director (Fisheries)  N. Gojendro and others.
