Cleanliness drive on the first day for the upcoming celebration of 4 years achievement by the government of Manipur under the “Ban of Single Use Plastics”

The District Administration and ICDS Cell of Senapati in collaboration with the Town Committee, Senapati and CSO’s Senapati have conducted a cleanliness drive on Wednesday at Government offices, roads, schools & hospital, Senapati rivers and at various public places on the first day for the upcoming celebration of 4 years achievement by the government of Manipur under the “Ban of Single Use Plastics”.

P. P. Ronald, SDO Senapati, stated that the present government is the government working for a change with a missionary zeal to bring all-round socio-economic development and progress both in the hills and valleys. He also states that changes have been seen in term of no blockades and bandhs with the peaceful environment thus minimizing the gaps between the hills and valleys as in the past.

He mentioned that the Senapati district is the first district among the district in the state to be declared as the Open Defecation Free under Swatch Bharat Mission on 27th March 2018. Unlike the past years, the district is fully connected with electricity and its people are enjoying an uninterrupted 24×7 power supply, he added. 

He also mentioned that the project of supplying potable water from Barak River to district HQs areas is on the verge of completing. He said that under the Go to Hills mission, two Cabinet sitting at the district HQ had been held, i.e. on 16th April 2018 and the recent was on 9th December 2020. Whereby, on the second cabinet meeting, the government had inaugurated many projects- such as Transit Hostel for Doctors/ Teachers;  Trauma centre and Blood bank Centre; full-fledge Hr. Sec. Government School at Katomei village and 15kms approached the road to Dzuko base camp.

With the launching of Go to Village mission on 1st May. 2018 at the district, doorsteps services were made available to the far-flung villages in the district, he added. He further said that during the pandemic situations, the government could bring back 5000 passengers to Senapati district where there were given free lodging and fooding with free transportation and medical assistance. Under the covid vaccinations drives, 6161 people have registered out of which 2685 are vaccinated to date.

He further mentioned the infrastructural developments taken by the government in the last four years. Such as blacktopping of NH-2 from Mao- Koubru Laikhai, Overhead footbridge at District HQ, Apfii Saleki (Women Market), Multi-Purpose indoor stadium at Rikhumai Taphou consisting of 12 badminton courts with maple woods and Sports gallery at Mini Stadium.

John, President, Senapati Town Committee speaking on the cleanliness drive stated that after the deliberate discussion with the district administration, various noticed has been served to ensure that the town is clean. He said that during the year 2020-21, the usage of plastics have minimized a lot in the town. He appealed to the public masses to make use of the dust bin by not scattering waste material around.

The Wednesday’s cleanliness drive was participated by youth and students volunteers, staffs and student of MANEDA, Government officials and staff of the different department, Women Vendors and the general public.
