The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee expressed deep sorrow on the demise of veteran Congress MLA and Former Minister, Laishram Nandakumar Singh.

In a condolence meeting chaired by the MPCC President Moirangthem Okendro held at Congress Bhavan, B.T Road Imphal at 8:30am today, the Congress Legislative Party Leader Okram Ibobi Singh stated, “His demise has left a void not only for the party but for the State as well. He was a seasoned leader and an eminent lawyer who made remarkable contributions to both the party and the public.”

He further extended condolences to the family members and friends in this hour of grief.

The condolence meeting was also attended by CWC member Gaikhangam, Vice President Dr.  Kh. Ratankumar, office bearers and other working members of the MPCC.

Nandakumar, a three-time Congress MLA of the State from 2002 to 2012, breathed his last following post Covid Complications at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.

Nandakumar who was born on 17th February 1934 was a resident of Nagamapal Singjubung Leikai.  He served as Minister of Law and Legislative Affairs, Health and labour at different points of time. He was elected as Commissioner of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) in 1972 and was also a governing member of the National Law School, Bangalore before being elected as a Senior Advocate of Guwahati High Court in 2001. He also held the post of vice-chairman of All India Bar Council.

He expired on 5th December, 2020. He was 86.

A two-minute silence was observed to show respect in this hour of bereavement.
