It was considered prudent to open separate Quarantine Centre for the transgenders so as to ensure emotional security to the persons belonging to the third gender during the current pandemic
Manipur has come up with a first ever dedicated Quarantine centre by the Department of Social Welfare especially for Transgender who arrived at the state recently.
According to some social media updates written by some Transgender the department has been requested to declare/designate the following institutes as Quarantine Centres specially meant for the transgenders of Manipur.
Seeing at the inconvenience after accommodating them in some institutional and community quarantine centre with either males or females, the first dedicated Quarantine centre at Govt. Ideal Blind School, Takyelpat, Imphal West was set up which can accommodate up to 24 stranded transgender persons arriving from Green Zone. Those who are coming from Red Zones would be further accommodated at Maria Montessori Higher Secondary School, Koirengei. Items like masks, sanitizer, gloves, PPEs, goggles, sodium hypochlorite solution, etc. are being provided for the centre.
It was considered prudent to open separate Quarantine Centre for the transgenders so as to ensure emotional security to the persons belonging to the third gender during the current pandemic.
According to a press release from the said department it is stated that all necessary logistics are to be arranged by the Department of Health and Family Welfare in this regard as per prevalent norms.
Adding to this the concerned Director of Social Welfare Department Ng. Uttam issued a letter on Wednesday for designation of above mentioned institutes as Institutional Quarantine Centre and dedicated Quarantine Centre for transgenders. It could be mentioned that a total of 40 (Forty) transgenders may require separate quarantine facility.
