Registration of vehicles, which has been put on halt, should be registered within 21st March 2021

Transport Minister Vungzagin Valte inaugurated the observation of National Road Safety Month on Monday on the theme ‘SadakSuraksha-JeevanRaksha’ at the Manipur state transport (MST) Complex, Moirangkhom to disseminate awareness regarding road safety and reduce road accidents.

Valte expressed his gratitude to the traffic police, transport department, NGOs and individuals who are instrumental in the awareness campaigns and implementation of road safety rules in the states. He urged the public to maintain road safety guidelines by wearing helmet, seatbelt or not using mobile phones while driving. He asked the concern authorities who issue driving licence to only the qualified and trained drivers for the safety of the individual and the public.

The Minister also instructed the different transport organisations / associations to actively participate in the campaign for road safety months and asked the transport department to organize an awareness campaign related to road safety in all the district headquarters.

The Minister also released a pamphlet on 10 golden rules for road safety published and distributed by Department of Transport & IDTRC, Manipur.

Distribution of certificates and memento to traffic control police, enforcement officers of the transport department, media persons, NGOs and individuals for their outstanding contribution in road safety-related activities marked the event.

Giving a keynote address, P. Vaiphei, (Transport) cautioned parents not to allow children to drive vehicles as this can cause loss of lives due to accidents and the parents can be penalized to the extent of 3 years of imprisonment. Registration of vehicles, which has been put on halt, should be registered within 21st March 2021 as this will be the last date for extension through the dealers as registration of vehicles will be done by them and not the DTOs, he added.
