KIRAN, an ICAR initiative to empower agricultural knowledge and innovation in North East a step taken further led to the inauguration of the agri –start-up “D. Sten Food Processing Unit” at Umroi, Nongrah in Meghalaya. Flo Oberhofer Program head of Prime Hub said that D. Sten is one among the top fifty entrepreneurs from the state as per the research by the organization.
The food processing unit was inaugurated by HOD Social Science ICAR, Umiam Dr. N Uttam Singh in the presence of village headman and other officials today. Addressing the gathering he said that major reason why startup fails is due to lack of capital or funding, inefficient management, lack of infrastructure and unsuccessful marketing strategies, if these four major concerns are taken care of then the start-ups will flourish. The region has the potential to self-sufficiency in all aspects.
The initiative was a step to encourage entrepreneurs to be self-reliant. The agri- startup is unique as it has used locally available resources to establish the unit. Though the initiative is set in low scale with correct measures and efforts from the state and line departments, it can achieve great heights.
