DC Phek urged everyone to send the messages of “stop violence against women” which will bring impact to our society and work together hand in hand

International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women 2020, mark the launch of 16 Days Activism (25th November to 10th December 2020). This year’s theme for the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women is “Orange the World; Fund, Respond, Prevent, collect”. 

Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violation in our world today remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence and stigma surrounding it. In general terms, it manifests itself in physical, sexual and psychological forms. Violence against women continues to be an obstacle to achieving equality, development, peace as well as the fulfilment of women and girls’ human rights. The promise of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) “to leave no one behind” cannot be fulfilled without putting an end to violence against women and girls.

In this connection, the District Administration & DLCW- Mahila Shakti Kendra in collaboration with Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Phek, under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiated International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women programme at Phek HQ on 25th November 2020. On account of 16 days Activism on gender based violence, the next activity will be conducted at Meluri Sub- division under Phek district for Sensitisation Program in 5 villages including Shilloi Lake. 

Sachin Jaiswal, Deputy Commissioner Phek, in his keynote address emphasised on why we must eliminate violence against women and mentioned the different gender-based violence such as physical, emotional and economic violence. DC also appraised that there is a separate cell for the North East region Women under IG at Raj Bhavan.  DC Phek urged everyone to send the messages of “stop violence against women” which will bring impact to our society and work together hand in hand.

Speaking on the theme: “Orange the world: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect’’, Vesupra Kezo, (NPS) SP Phek, highlighted the cases which have been registered under crime against women. Kezo also added that there is a separate Women cell set up in every district, which is the Government policy to let the women in the front tackle any issues of Women and as a responsible citizen and parents we should all take the responsibility of teaching our children on what is gender-based violence. 

The programme was chaired by Bhavani, IAS SDO(C) & Nodal Officer BBBP, Phek, and Veduzolu S. Kezo pronounced the invocation. I Won’t Give Up was presented by Niekhoyi Stephen Rhakho. The programme was followed by walkathon which was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner Phek. Various civil societies and students from different schools attended the event. The programme ended with the launching of LED by Deputy Commissioner Phekat prominent public place Phek HQ.
