Dr Swamy in the past had opposed even the privatisation of Air India
Subramanian Swamy, the veteran politician and economist who is the BJP MP on Wednesday echoed that privatisation of the Visakhapatnam Steel plant is not a good idea. He said interacting with the media after his meeting with the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in Amravati.
Swamy while voicing his concern and opposition to the Union Government’s privatisation plan for Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, he said that in the past, he had opposed even the privatisation of Air India.
He however advised that he is in favour of market systems, and the government should consider divestment on a case by case basis. Blindly privatising public sector companies is not a good thing, and he said that it should be attempted only if there are sufficiently strong reasons.

that the centre’s move to privatise the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has evoked a
negative sentiment and opposition in the state.
