Batukeshwar Dutt was an Indian Bengali revolutionary and independence fighter who was born on November 18, in the year 1910 known for having exploded a few bombs, along with Bhagat Singh, in the Central Legislative Assembly in New Delhi on 8 April 1929.

Batukeshwar Dutt was an Indian Bengali revolutionary and independence fighter who was born on November 18, in the year 1910 known for having exploded a few bombs, along with Bhagat Singh, in the Central Legislative Assembly in New Delhi on 8 April 1929.

Some lesser-known facts about the revolutionary:

Dutt learned how to make bombs while working for the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association in Kanpur.

He was a close associate of freedom fighters Chandrashekhar Azad and Bhagat Singh.

He exploded bombs along with Bhagat Singh, in the Central Legislative Assembly in New Delhi on April 8, 1929.

After they were arrested, tried and imprisoned for life, they were deported to the Cellular Jail (Kaala Paani) in Andaman.

While serving the term, Dutt initiated a historic hunger strike along with Bhagat Singh to protest against the abusive treatment of Indian political prisoners, and eventually secured some rights for them.

After his release from prison, he contracted tuberculosis however, that did not deter him from participating in the Quit India Movement. The act landed him in jail for another four years.

He died on July 20, 1965 in AIIMS hospital after battling illness for a long time.
