As a part of the consistent efforts to increase railway revenue in the parcel segment and to further facilitate the ease of doing business for parcel transporters, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced digital payment modes across its parcel offices.  As of 04th December 2024 NFR has achieved 46.5% digital payment share in its parcel segment. NFR is planning to equip all its parcel offices with digital payment modes in a phased manner.

As per the directions of the Railway Board, to enable digital payment, N. F. Railway introduced the facility of payment through Point of Sale (PoS) at the parcel office of New Jalpaiguri under the Katihar division on 06th November 2024.  Also, QR Code payment facilities were introduced at the New Jalpaiguri & Guwahati parcel offices on 16th November 2024. Since the introduction of digital payment modes, divisions of NFR are gradually showing an increasing trend in parcel traffic booking through various digital gateways. As of 04th December 2024, the Rangiya division registered 85.6%, the Katihar division registered 83.6% and the Alipurduar division registered 63.9% of digital payments in parcel booking. Payments can be made through Card, Internet Banking, QR Code through PoS and QR Code through QRD etc during parcel booking thus enabling cashless transactions.

Transportation of goods by rail is cheaper and faster than roadways and it is the most environment-friendly mode of transport. N. F. Railway hopes that various initiatives and schemes being provided by Railways will help businessmen and aggregators in a bigger way for transportation of their commodities through parcel trains/vans.
