Doordarshan has started “Weekend Premiere Programmes” on DD National. Some of the programs provide a whiff of freshness by deviating from the usual fare based on mythologies or domestic conflicts. One such new series ‘Phir Subah Hogi’, Produced & Directed by Pinku Biswas, have got accolades because of their variations and production quality and is flying high with a slot in the ‘Top Ten Programmes’ within the flagship channels of DD.
The show is already catching attention by its powerful female protagonist. Unlike conventional ‘heroines’ of serials, she is a bold, outspoken woman who has chosen to serve local people by opting for the noble profession of a doctor. She is shown to be openly critical of malpractices in this profession, going to the extent of fighting against the goons who hoard or supply spurious medicines. The serial highlights the dedication of the doctors and the hospital staff in saving lives. But most importantly it emphasises health, education and financial independence for women as a means to achieve respect and dignity. It also voices social concerns like dowry, domestic violence and illiteracy.
Programmes like this are required to ingrain a much needed sense of empowerment for women. Society can progress only when women are educated and empowered to change the lives of people around them. The superb cinematography and natural acting just add to the overall quality of this serial. Phir Subah Hogi provides a fresh hope to many middle class girls who aspire to stand on their own feet and make a difference to society. Writer-Producer – Director envisaged the magnificent idea and concept and the story is embedded with socially relevant messages of women empowerment, evils of corruption & dowry in society, swachhata mission, family values and respect to elderly.
Doordarshan should telecast more serials like this so that not just the urban, but rural audiences are also encouraged against the malpractices and corruption in their society, especially, in their immediate neighbourhoods, so that India could march on the path of real development
