Silchar is not only a city of Bengali speaking people but also home to a large number of Hindi speaking people along with other communities. Their languages and cultures also need to be highlighted in the true spirit of nationalism echoed Amal Gupta, senior journalist and the Editor of ‘Naya Thahor’ from Guwahati.

Prerna Bharati, a Hindi language newspaper, has been coming out daily in the face of many adversities. But the recent devastating flood, the worst in 100 years, disrupted the daily printing of the newspaper. Expensive machinery has sunk, incurring a huge loss to the publisher of the daily newspaper in Hindi.

Dilip Kumar the publisher of Prerna Bharati in a Facebook post on Friday shared ‘ It has been 11 days since Prerana Bharati office was submerged in water’ He shared some photos on the platform

Reacting to the situation, Ratnajyoti Dutta, an eminent journalist, and the National Advisor of Naya Thahor, a popular Guwahati-based Bengali news portal group, said that Silchar is not only a city of Bengali speaking people but also of all other linguistic people including Hindi speaking diasporas.  Will anyone extend a helping hand to the lone Hindi language newspaper of the Barak Valley and Silchar – Prerna Bharati?
