The SDGs aim to ’leave no one behind and to ‘reach the furthest behind first’ stated Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie while deliberating in the district level workshop on Building Capacities for taking forward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which was held today at planning conference hall, organized by SDG Coordination centre and department of planning and coordination.
Gregory stated that SDGs were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. The SDGs are a collection of 17 global goals and associated 169 targets designed to be a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
He added that the 17 goals to “No Poverty” including a vision to end poverty in all its forms everywhere; End hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture; Ensure healthy lives and promote well- being for all ages; Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all; Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls; Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all; Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all; Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all; Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation; Reduce inequality within and among countries; Make cities and settlements inclusive, safe resilient and sustainable; Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns; Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impact; Conserve and sustainably use the ocean, seas and marine resources for sustainable development; Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystem, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss; Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels and strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
District Planning Officer, Pudusul Luho said that Nagaland state is also engaged in the process of SDG integration and localization since 2018 with its Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Centre (SDGCC) under the Planning & Coordination Department.
Further, he also added that though SDGs are a new policy to most of the departments, he also encouraged to look forward with coordination to understand the main concept of SDG and identify the challenges and its solutions and put our society SDG in harmony.
During the workshop, SDG consultant from all the departments on localization and integration of SDGs and preparedness of Nagaland was highlighted.

Participants from all the 28 Departments and the SDG Consultants from the SDGCC attended the workshop.
