The head of ‘Tipra Motha’ and Tripura royal scion Pradyot Kishore had supported naming of ‘Bharat’ as it is evident from his social media post where he has questioned the Congress, his former party, over its stand saying ‘last year Rahul Gandhi organized and took part in a march called ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ and it was never ‘India Jodo Yatra’ , so why the objection now over naming of the country as ‘Bharat’.

Pradyot said that from time immemorial, especially since the ages of the ‘Puranas’ and epics India has been known as ‘Bharat’. “In the Vishnu Purana it has been clearly stated in a hymn that people living in the geographical area between the Himalayas in the north and seas in the south are known as Bharatis and the country known as Bharat” said Pradyot, adding that foreigners like the Greeks and then the English started calling the country India; even the Article 1 of the Indian constitution emphatically says ‘India that is Bharat is a union of states” said Pradyot.

He asserted that the name ‘Bharat’ is the soul of the sacred land between seas-Bay of Bengal, the Arabian sea, the Indian ocean and the Himalayas’ and it should be called so exclusively.
