Tokhu Emong the festival of the Lothas of Nagaland was celebrated by the people of Diphupar village, at the State Agri Expo compound in Chumoukedima. 

Rev. Dr. Ezamo Murry senior resident of Diphupar village while briefing about the significance of the festival to this correspondent said that the festival is celebrated by the Lotha community after post-harvest by merry-making and renewing friendships by forgiving each other. 

He further informed that the festival is nine days long from the 1st of November and two years back the Government of Nagaland gave the last two days of the festival as holidays for Lotha people. 

Reverend Murry also narrated an interesting fact about an old tradition the Lothas used to follow where they kept the dead for a year and the month of November is when they used to release the soul and body. 

Around 150 people gathered to have a grand feast and children, women folks, and the men were in their traditional dress. 

The Chief Minister of Nagaland also wished the people and wrote in a tweet ‘Warm greetings to the Lotha community on the joyous occasion of Tokhu Emong. May this post harvest festival, emphasize on renewal of relationships, foster oneness, and strengthen bonds’.
