Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma kicked off a week-long Van Mahotsav celebration on July 1, urging citizens to participate in local tree-planting efforts. In a social media post accompanied by a video of tree planting activities, Sarma emphasised the importance of individual action in combating climate change.

“Planting seeds for a Greener Future,” Sarma stated, highlighting the state’s commitment to environmental conservation. He called on residents to “plant trees in their vicinity,” describing it as “the best way to fight climate change.”

The Chief Minister also outlined Assam’s broader environmental strategy, mentioning the Amrit Brikshya Andolan and other initiatives aimed at significantly increasing the state’s green cover.

This push for widespread tree planting aligns with growing national and global concerns about deforestation and its impact on climate change.
